Lupin III debuted August 10, 1967 in the pages of Weekly Manga Action, a weekly magazine 



Futabasha. Its author is Kazuhiko Kato, a manga artist who becomes famous with the artistic name 



of Monkey Punch. Kato does not create a character from scratch, but refers to the protagonist of 



the stories and novels of Maurice Leblanc, much loved in Japan: Arsene Lupin. His other Lupin is 



not the descendant of the famous gentleman thief, or his nephew.



The stretch of Monkey Punch is fresh, dynamic and engaging, and stories that creates compelling, 



already in line with what Lupin will in the future. Given the recurring sexual innuendo, the manga 



is aimed in particular at an adult audience, specifically to the university. But, for exactly the 



same reason, is among the high school that raises the greatest enthusiasm. The first set of paper 



Lupin continued for five years until April 1972.



On June 23, 1977 Monkey Punch began the second set, with the result to double the sales of Action. 



The output of the first night of these new episodes, across Tokyo is impossible to find a single 



copy of the magazine. Four years later, in May 1981, the series ended.



In the episode titled Kanketsuhen (Final Chapter), Lupin, with his companions, he finds himself on 



a desert island, which explodes in front of an astonished Zenigata. A surface water remain a 



holster, a gun, a sword and a bra. But do not be ruled out yet another found Lupin, followed by 



one of his usual daring escapes. It is the same Monkey Punch yearn for the promise of a sequel. In 



the next issue of Action is a surprise episode with a young Lupin facing Zenigata, however, 



already devoid of adult raincoat and hat.



The third series of Lupin manga is published only in 1997, Lupin III S. Monkey Punch it is only 



the administrator, because drawing is the mangaka Yamamoto Shusay on texts Satosumi Takaguchi. The 



stories are inspired by the TV series, and suddenly was inspired by the first TV series and The 



Castle of Cagliostro. Was published in Weekly Manga Action and Action 2.



Masatsuki Yamakami deals instead of the new series started in 1998 and serialized in Weekly Manga 



Action always called Lupin III Y Yamakami feature is similar to the stretch of the second Lupin 



series, and the frequent use of nudity.



In 2005 it started serializing adventures made by another author: Lupin III M

della Futabasha. Il suo autore è Kazuhiko Kato, un mangaka che diventerà famoso col nome d'arte di 



Monkey Punch. Kato non crea un personaggio ex novo, ma si rifà al protagonista dei racconti e 



romanzi di Maurice Leblanc, molto amato in Giappone: Arsène Lupin. Il suo Lupin altri non è che il 



discendente del celebre ladro gentiluomo, ovvero suo nipote.



Il tratto di Monkey Punch è fresco, dinamico e accattivante, e le storie che crea avvincenti, già 



in linea con quello che Lupin sarà in futuro. Date le ricorrenti allusioni sessuali, il manga è 



rivolto in particolare ad un pubblico adulto, più precisamente agli universitari. Ma, esattamente 



per lo stesso motivo, è tra i liceali che suscita il maggior entusiasmo. La prima serie cartacea 



di Lupin proseguì per cinque anni sino all'aprile 1972.



Il 23 giugno 1977 Monkey Punch iniziò la seconda serie, col risultato di far raddoppiare le 



vendite di Action. La sera dell'uscita della prima di queste nuove puntate, in tutta Tokyo è 



impossibile trovare una sola copia della rivista. Quattro anni dopo, nel maggio del 1981, la serie 



si concluse.



Nell'episodio intitolato Kanketsuhen ( Capitolo Finale ), Lupin, assieme ai suoi compagni, si 



ritrova su un isolotto deserto, che esplode davanti ad un attonito Zenigata. A galla sull'acqua 



rimangono una fondina, una pistola, una spada ed un reggiseno. Ma non è da escludere l'ennesima 



trovata di Lupin, seguita da una delle sue solite fughe rocambolesche. È infatti lo stesso Monkey 



Punch a vagheggiare la promessa di un seguito. Nel numero successivo di Action appare un episodio 



a sorpresa, con un giovanissimo Lupin alle prese con Zenigata, già adulto sprovvisto però di 



impermeabile e cappello.



La terza serie dei manga di Lupin viene pubblicata solo nel 1997, è Lupin III S. Monkey Punch ne è 



solo il curatore, perché a disegnarla è il mangaka Yamamoto Shusay su testi di Satosumi Takaguchi. 



Le storie ricalcano le serie TV, ed il tratto è ispirato alla prima serie tv ed a Il Castello di 



Cagliostro. Venne pubblicata su Weekly Manga Action e su Action 2.



Masatsuki Yamakami si occupa invece della nuova serie, partita nel 1998, e serializzata sempre su 



Weekly Manga Action dal titolo Lupin III Y. Caratteristica di Yamakami è il tratto simile al Lupin 



della seconda serie, e il ricorso frequente a scene di nudo.



Nel 2005 è iniziata la serializzazione di altre avventure realizzate da un altro autore: Lupin III 



M.
